Government of Canada assists families with high costs of raising children
July 12, 2017 – Vaughan-Woodbridge – The Government of Canada’s new ‘Canada Child Benefit’ (CCB) provided $4,907,000 in financial support to low and middle class families in the riding of Vaughan-Woodbridge for the month of May. The Government paid a total of 10,010 payments to families, which benefitted 17,800 children.
The CCB is a simpler way for families who need assistance to receive a monthly, tax-free payment. The CCB will help lift thousands of children out of poverty and, for families in Vaughan-Woodbridge, this benefit helps cover the high costs of raising children. These payments are targeted to assist families who need it the most; the CCB will provide a maximum annual benefit of up to $6,400 (per child) under the age of 6 and up to $5,400 (per child), aged 6 through 17. Families who earn less than $30,000 in net income will receive the maximum benefit available.
Quotes
“Too many middle-class families struggle with the high costs of raising their children. The new Canada Child Benefit means more money for healthier groceries, kids’ summer programs, and back-to-school clothes. This new child benefit is much more generous, and will help the Canadian economy grow for years to come.”
-The Rt. Hon. Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada
“I am proud to be part of a government that believes we must do for our kids and grandkids what our parents and grandparents did for us to give us the promise of a better future. Toward that end, budget 2016 has invested in Canadian families through the transformational program like the new Canada child benefit that provides help to those families that need it the most with the high cost of raising children.”
–Francesco Sorbara, Member of Parliament for Vaughan-Woodbridge
